What is the Standard GlobalGap?

GlobalGAP is an international standard that summarizes the basic requirements of "good agricultural production practices" (GAP: Good Agricultural Practices) and addresses producers of fresh and unprocessed food of plant and animal origin. It especially involves the farmers and aquaculture activities. The standard was established in 1997 under the name of EurepGAP on initiative of distributor members of EUREP (Euro-Retailer Produce Working Group). In September 2007 the Standard changed its name and became GlobalGAP, to emphasize the growing internationality. It is based on the fundamental principles of: Food safety, Environmental protection, Health and safety on the job, wellbeing for the animals. Through the GlobalGAP Certification, companies can demonstrate to the consumers and the Distribution that their product meet the requirements of safety and quality and has been grown according to sustainable practices.
